Event:
Communities & Consequences Film
The Heading for Home Regional Housing Coalition presents, “Communities & Consequences” a film and discussion, 5:30-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, Recital Hall, Keene State College, Keene, NH.
Heading for Home is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit workforce housing coalition with the mission of facilitating the growth of both purchased and rental workforce housing to strengthen the economic vitality of the Monadnock Region.
Why is it important?
The human ecology of New Hampshire is changing. Young professional adults are leaving the state because of the lack of affordable housing ($134,000 to $252,000 in 2006) and the scarcity of long-term career-building jobs with the potential to support a family.
The elderly population is rapidly increasing, placing additional demands on health and social services organizations that are unable to recruit and retain critical professional workers.
Why is the film relevant to the Monadnock Region?
The movie features two Monadnock Region stories. The Marlborough School construction debate is profiled extensively as well as the story of a couple who chose to leave teaching jobs in the Region to move to another state where housing is more affordable.
